Bromley wedding photographer reveals her tensions before the big day

My dear couples, I’m a Bromley wedding photographer and I can say that now I’m well experienced in my job. However,  if you think you are the only ones with butterflies and legs like jelly before your wedding, let me tell you a secret: we feel that way too!!! I get so nervous  before the big day that at times I’ve lost nearly half a stone at the end of the day!

I still remember how I felt on my very first wedding where I was the main photographer. It was a cold morning in January and the wedding took place in a wonderful hotel called Nutfield Priory in Redhill. The couple were lovely too… everything was just perfect.

After having checked the location and the venue around 20 times online, I decided to leave home at around 7 AM, just in case I found traffic on my way,  to check the light and the surroundings, to try to structure and plan the day (as much as I could anyway), to check where to position myself and most importantly to get there before anyone else! I ended up getting on site at 9 AM and I was supposed to meet the bride at 11!!! I had 2 long hours ahead of me.  At 10 AM I was already sweating and I had visited the toilet a total of 3 times.

As I write this, I’m laughing but it is exactly how I felt. I was a nervous wreck and I can guarantee that is how most photographers feel on their first wedding.

Nowadays I still feel the adrenaline rush, but of course, experience helps and now I know what the flow of the events is going to be which allows me to be in the right place at the right time so that I can anticipate events and be ready and comfortable before each shot.

The good thing about the anxiety I feel before a wedding is that it keeps me going and my energy levels stay high for a long time. This means that I don’t get tired when I’m crouching, jumping on chairs and running from one place to another…. that is until I actually collapse on the sofa when I get home!  It’s this tension that helps me to focus so that I never miss a shot, because I know that if I do, it’s gone forever.

I’m a family and wedding photographer in Bromley, Croydon and Beckenham and I hope you liked this post.

I have posted a few weddings photos from last year. If you like my photographs, which are definitely documentary-style, please get in touch. I’d love to have a chat with you.
